Let us therefore, inquire of the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes. Let us pray to the Lord our God, and make confession, because “if we confess our sins, He is Faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

America’s Prayer of Repentance
Our country is
in need of prayer. Therefore, I’m inviting the nation to let us join our voices
and pray for our country. We are cognizant of the fact that Righteousness
exalts a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people” (Prov. 14:34).
“O Lord our God,
in the name of Jesus, we approach your throne, giving honor to You, the great
and awesome God, who sits high and looks low, who keeps covenant and extend mercy
to those who love You, and keep Your commandments, we have sinned and committed
iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled, even by departing from Your
precepts and Your judgments.
Neither have we
heeded Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our leaders, to
our fathers and all the people of the land. O Lord, righteousness belongs to You,
but to us confusion of face, as it is this day in our land, because of the
unfaithfulness and abominations which we have committed against You.
O Lord, our God,
we have sinned and done foolishly by departing from Your words so as not to
obey Your voice; Even as we struggle to retain God in our knowledge and society,
do not give us over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not
convenient. (Rom.1:28) Therefore, Lord, hold back Your wrath from being poured
out on us, because we have sinned against You.
Yes, Lord, we
have sinned against You, but to You our God belong mercy and forgiveness,
though we have rebelled against You and have not obeyed Your voice to walk in Your
precepts, which You set before us in Your most Holy words, hear our prayer.
Our nation has
gone back from the principles on which it was founded “one nation under God.”
It was the intention of our founding fathers that this nation would reverence You,
God almighty as our supreme head that in 1954 the words “under God” was added
to our pledge of allegiance to emphasize and embrace Your Lordship over our
nation; and though we place these words “One Nation under GOD!” on bumper
stickers, on our vehicles, our hearts are far from You.
All year round we have experienced one
disaster after another come upon us, fire, flooding, violence, storms, drought;
man-made disasters, financial collapse, Economic down-turn in major cities, and
health problems; yet we have not made our prayer before You our Lord and our
God, that we might turn from our iniquities and abide by Your truth.
Yet, You are
pleading with us, “if My people who are called by My name, will humble
themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I
will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2Chron.
7:14).
Lord, hold back Your
anger from us and hear our prayers that we make unto You this day; for You our
God is righteous in all Your works which You do, though we have not obeyed Your
voice. But You, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger,
abounding in love and faithfulness. We have sinned, we have done wickedly! We Repent,
Lord and turn from our wicked ways, so that our sins may be wiped out, that
times of refreshing may come upon us from You.
O Lord,
according to Your righteousness, we pray, let Your anger and Your fury be
turned away from this nation, because for our sins and for the iniquities of
our people and leaders, and let us humble ourselves and return to You. Dear
Lord, You said in 1 John 1:9, that If we confess our sins, You are faithful and
just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Lord, let Your ministers
be clothed with righteousness; and let Your saints shout for joy. Send rain
from the heavens above, and let the skies pour down and water the earth: let
the earth open, and be fruitful once again; let them bring forth salvation, and
righteousness prevail. Let us prosper once again, let there be an economic turn
around for this nation, and strengthen our hand of generosity to aid the less
fortunate and nations to recover from natural disasters.
Therefore, our
God, we beseech you, hear the prayer of Your people, and the supplications of
our heart and for Your sake cause Your face to shine on us once again. O my
God, incline Your ear and hear; open Your eyes and see our miseries; for we do
not present our supplications before You because of our righteous deeds, but because
of Your great mercies. O Lord, hear! O Lord, we repent of the wrong doing of
our beloved nation, therefore forgive! O Lord, listen and act! Do not delay for
Your own sake, my God, for Your people are called by Your name.
Now, Lord, we
will be careful to perform what You require of us, to do justly, and to love
mercy, and to walk humbly with You (Micah 6:8). This is our prayer, in Jesus
name, Amen!
